Baker A+D Wins Most Prestigious Award in New Mexico.

Given every two years, the Harnar Award recognizes excellence in contemporary architectural design for buildings constructed in New Mexico. The jury included Christopher Hawthorne, LA Times architecture critic, and noted designer Steve Badanes. They selected the Barcelona Elementary School addition from among 28 other finalists. Baker A+D was also bestowed this award in 2009 for the Duranes Elementary School Children's Center.

An esteemed jury, chaired by renowned Jackson, Wyoming Architect John Carney, bestowed an AIA Merit Award upon Albuquerque-based Baker Architecture + Design for their recent project fro Albuquerque Public Schools. The jury cited the design as simultaneously elegant, fun, and sustainable. The building was noted for its "economy of means", "simplicity of thought", and importance to the Duranes community. The recently completed Children's Learning Center at Duranes Elementary was featured in Southwest Contractor Magazine which covers noteworthy projects in Arizona, Nevada and New Mexico. "90 Year-Old Duranes Elementary School Completed".

The new 4th and 5th grade classroom building designed by Albuquerque architect Baker A+D is flying up. The masons are halfway up the 30' tall Art & Music Room with the unique 4"x8"x16" burnished concrete block. The contractor, MV Industries, has utilized some effective techniques to accelerate the construction of this school. They have pre-built most of the framed wall panels and roof trusses in an empty field adjacent to the site while the foundation work was completed. This strategy should help the students get into the new LEED Gold building in time for the 2010 school year.

Albuquerque architects Baker A+D win the 2009 3form People's Choice Awards. The awards recognize the inspiring use of 3form panels in architectural design. 114 commercial/ institutional projects from around the world were judged in this competition. We are very happy to have received this honor, and would like to extend congratulations to the clients (Matt Ludeman, Mike Ludeman and Sam Etheridge) and fabricators (Luke Stribling and Christian Harper) who made this vision a reality.
