The Keleher

The Keleher is a 10,000 square foot adaptive reuse project that returns a historic landmark to its residential roots. Originally built as an adobe house in the late 1800s, the building was later converted for use as a school. This redevelopment reclaims that history, transforming the structure into 8 thoughtfully designed homes; four townhomes and three duplexes, nestled in the New Town neighborhood of downtown Albuquerque. The project is rooted in preservation. Rather than erase the building's layered past, The Keleher honors its original adobe character while bringing it fully up to modern living standards. Renovations include new roofing, new windows, fresh paint, and extensive deferred maintenance repairs - work that revitalizes the structure without compromising its historic integrity. Beyond restoration, The Keleher answers a pressing need: quality housing in downtown Albuquerque, where inventory has long lagged demand. By weaving new residential density into a building with over a century of history, the project offers a rare combination of modern, move-in-ready homes with the character and story of one of the neighborhood's original structures.
